*Residential students move into the dormitory on the Sunday preceding the program start date. Residential students are permitted to remain in-residence until noon on the Saturday following their program.

eligibility

Summer College at Syracuse is designed for high school students in good academic standing who demonstrate maturity and self-discipline.  While the majority of Summer College students attend the summer following their junior year in high school; approximately 20% of successful applicants attend during the summer following their sophomore year.  Additionally, Summer College does consider strong applications from students following their freshman year into the non-credit, 2-week, studio-based programs. 

Program admission is determined through review of completed applications, essay, transcripts, and letter of recommendation. Some programs have additional eligibility and application requirements. View the program pages and the application page for program-specific information.

2-Week Program Discount
Students enrolling in more than one 2-week program will save 15% to 20%:

  • Enroll in two 2-week programs and receive 15% off each program.
  • Enroll in three 2-week programs and receive 20% off each program.

Note: Syracuse University employee dependents are eligible for a 10% discount. This discount is for the dependents of full time benefits eligible SU employees only and cannot be applied with other discounts. This discount has no association with the general dependent tuition options offered by SU and is offered independently by Summer College.

Incidental Deposit
Student (residential and commuter) must provide an incidental deposit of $100. This money is refunded in the fall if no charges are incurred by the University.

Course Materials and Additional Expenses
Textbooks, lab fees, and other course-related materials, and personal expenses (including travel to and from the University) are not included in the total. Students in 6-week programs should expect to spend $150 per course for books and materials. Program-specific supply kits will be provided to students in Design & Studio Art Programs.

Financial Aid

A limited number of partial tuition scholarships are available for students enrolled in 2 & 6-week credit programs ONLY. All scholarships are awarded based on financial need. The maximum award for those who qualify in 2012 will not exceed $2,000 for 6-credit programs and $500 for 3-credit programs.

Financial Aid Application Procedures:

  • Complete the financial aid section of the application for admission.
  • Submit a copy of the first page of your parents’/guardians’ most recent federal tax return (2011 or 2012).
  • Completed financial aid applications must be postmarked no later than April 15, 2012. Earlier submissions are recommended as funds are distributed on a rolling basis and they do run out.

grades, transcripts, & transfers

GRADES
Grading information will be posted in late August following the conclusion of all programs. Students in credit programs can check their grades by logging into their MySlice accounts via the SU website. All students have a NetID and password to access: computers on campus, the SU network with a personal computer, personal email, the internet, MySlice, etc. Grades are not mailed to the student’s home.

TRANSCRIPTS
To request a transcript, students in credit programs should visit the following Office of the Registrar webpage for the procedures and options: http://registrar.syr.edu/students/transcripts.html. In accordance with SU policy and FERPA regulations, Summer College does not have access to grades and only the students can request transcripts. 

TRANSFERABILITY
Credits earned through Summer College are eligible for consideration as transfer credit at other colleges and universities upon matriculation and a credit-transfer request. The student’s college of matriculation (at SU as well as other institutions) determines whether and how credit transfer applies.

Summer College consists of many dedicated, caring professionals who are committed to creating an atmosphere that provides an enriching blend of the academic challenge and social interaction associated with university life. Year-round, the program is administered by a director and an administrative specialist. During the summer, dozens of offices and departments are involved in program operations. Students have resources for their many needs from the Office of Residence Life to many academic departments within the various schools and colleges of SU.
