Summer (Pre) College For High School Students

Summer College Architecture program builds your understanding and appreciation of architecture through studio design problems, lectures, and drawing exercises.

Students working on architecture projectLiving the life of a university architecture student for six weeks can help you decide whether to pursue study in a professional architectural school or in a related field. And if you discover architecture is for you, you'll have a head start.

The program is structured so you can produce the beginnings of an architecture program application portfolio.

You register for one six-credit course, Architecture (ARC) 193 Basic Concepts of Architecture, taught by Syracuse University School of Architecture faculty.

With a wide variety of learning opportunities, students in the architecture Summer College program participate in lectures, field trips, and most importantly, hands-on studio classrooms.

Students frequently present their work for discussion and review, including a final design review with a School of Architecture faculty panel, and a closing exhibition for students, faculty, friends, and families.

Round out this intense and exciting taste of architectural study with field trips to see buildings designed by such prominent architects as Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Kahn, and I.M. Pei and guest lectures by faculty and graduates.

A final exhibition of students’ work is held in the Schine Student Center on campus. Students from all programs, family, friends and the community at large will be able to see the architecture projects produced by Summer College students.
